Self Clean or other buttons do not light up or respond, or panel is locked on Samsung oven

The control panel on your Samsung range or wall oven will lock if it is running certain functions, such as Self Clean, Twin Cooking, or Temperature Probe. Also, some controls are only available when using (or not using) other functions. This is to protect the oven from excessive heat or children who may accidentally touch the oven.

1

Make sure the function is currently available.

The buttons on certain models only light up when the function is currently available (like Broil, Roast, or Bake) and will ignore input from other buttons when they are not available because of the currently selected settings.

Here are some of the most common reasons why the button you're trying to use might not be working:

  • Self Clean, Temperature Probe, and many other functions will not work if a partition is inserted.
  • Twin Cooking only works if a partition is inserted.
  • The Kitchen Timer function cannot be set if it's already running. The current timer will need to be canceled. If the button says Off (3 Sec), then you will need to touch and hold the button for 3 seconds in order to cancel the timer. Afterward, you can set a new timer.
  • Self Clean will not be available while the warming drawer is on. (Not all models have warming drawers.)
  • Temperature Probe functions only work when the probe is inserted in the oven. Other settings, like Self Clean, will be disabled when the probe is inserted.
  • Self Clean on a range will not function while the cooktop is in use.

For a better understanding of which functions can be used at which times, review your user manual.

Make sure the panel isn't hot.

Control panel displaying Hot

If the oven is too hot for the panel to operate, it will display "Hot" when you try to perform a function. After the oven has become a little cooler, it may still display "Hot" when certain buttons are touched (like Self Clean) because the oven is still too hot to perform that particular function.

The interior lamp will also not function during cycles with extreme heat, such as Self Clean, so this button may appear to do nothing in that situation.

3

Make sure the panel isn't locked.

Control panel displaying Loc

The appearance of Control Lock varies between models, but it will usually be displayed as a padlock icon or as the code “Loc”, or both. Instructions for turning off Control Lock are written on the panel. You can also check your user manual for detailed instructions.

4

Clean the panel.

Using a soft cloth, wipe the panel until it is clean. Fingerprints or grease and dirt build up can prevent the display from responding to touches.
5

Cycle power at the circuit breaker.

Reset power to the range by turning the circuit breaker off, waiting 30 seconds, and then turning it back on.
6

Request service.

If your range's panel still will not respond, visit our Support Center to request service.
