Play button does not work to start a Blu-ray disc

The Blu-ray standard is an upgrade from DVD in a lot of ways, allowing the main menu to be much more interactive than a DVD disc. As part of this change in the standard, many Blu-ray discs block the Play button from being used on the main menu. Instead, use the navigation arrows and press Enter to get the movie started.

The Blu-ray disc itself determines whether or not the Play button will start the movie or not. Some Blu-ray discs will start playing automatically without even needing to press anything at all. However, many Blu-ray discs will stay in the menu indefinitely and also block the Play button.

If the menu loads instead of the movie and the Play button doesn't start it, simply navigate to the option that will start the movie and then press Enter.

Since this is coded into the disc, it is not a defect and the disc would work the same way in any other Blu-ray player, regardless of the manufacturer.

DVDs can still start the movie using the Play button.
