Samsung washer door is locked

Your washer door locks to prevent water from coming out (especially for front load models). Child Lock also will lock the door on some models, like front loaders. Normally waiting for the cycle to end is all you need to do to unlock the door, or turn your washer on if it's off. If you get stuck, though, you can drain the water from front load washers using the emergency drain hose; once the water is gone, the door will unlock.
-
Verify Child Lock is not engaged.
On some models like front load washers, Child Lock will lock the door. This is to prevent children from opening the door and potentially getting hurt. See our guide about Child Lock for more information.
-
Verify the wash cycle is complete.
Make sure the timer has expired and the water has fully drained. If you need to cancel the cycle, touch Start/Pause (Hold to Start). There are a few things to keep in mind when a cycle has completed.
- It may take a few moments for the door lock mechanism to disengage.
- Make sure the door lock light is off. This light turns off after the washer has drained.
- If the washer is paused after the water is supplied, the door cannot be opened until one minute has passed.
-
If the washer is off, turn it on and wait until the door unlocks.
The washer should make a clicking sound, and the door should unlock.
-
For front load models, drain the emergency hose.
Front load models will lock the door while water is detected inside the washer to prevent it from spilling onto your floor. The emergency drain hose is located by the pump filter (also called a debris filter). Some older front load models do not have a pump filter or an emergency drain hose.
The steps for draining the emergency drain hose can be found in our guide on cleaning the pump filter.
When the emergency drain hose no longer has any water coming out, turn the washer off and back on again. This time the door should unlock.

Request service.
If the door still won't unlock, please visit the Support Center to request service.
On top load washers that lost power during a cycle, it will take up to 5 minutes for the washer to unlock and resume normal operation. This is due to added safety features to protect the unit.
