Pointer moves when typing on Samsung PC

If the pointer moves around while you are typing, you'll want to check the touchpad's settings, check for an external mouse issue (if one is connected), or check for a touch screen issue.

Pointer moves when typing on Samsung PC

1

Check for software updates.

Make sure that your PC’s firmware and drivers are updated.
Note
If you are using an external mouse, you can turn off the touchpad automatically when the mouse is connected to prevent accidental touches. Select Touchpad, and then make sure the option for Leave touchpad on when a mouse is connected is deselected and turned off.
2

Adjust the touchpad sensitivity controls.

If the pointer moves while you're typing, you may be accidentally touching the touchpad. Rather than trying to adjust your typing posture, you can adjust the sensitivity of the touchpad (to reduce sensitivity). This may help prevent your accidental touches from being registered as intentional pointer input.

Select Start on your PC, and then navigate to and open Settings. Select Bluetooth and devices, and then select Touchpad.

Select Taps under Gestures & interaction, and then select the drop-down next to Touchpad sensitivity. Choose your desired setting, such as Most, High, Medium, or Low sensitivity, depending on your preference.

3

Confirm an external mouse is not moving the pointer.

If you have an external mouse connected, disconnect it or turn it off and confirm if the pointer still moves on its own. If this stops the pointer from moving, the external mouse is at fault. It may need cleaning or repair.

Don't forget wireless or Bluetooth mouse you may have connected and then left out of sight; something may be moving the mouse without your knowledge.

For further assistance with an external mouse, contact its manufacturer.

4

If your model has a touchscreen, make sure it's clean and in good condition.

Using a soft microfiber cloth to gently clean the screen.

If your PC has a touch screen, check that the screen is clean and undamaged. You can use a soft microfiber cloth to gently clean the screen if needed. Any damage or debris on the screen may be registering as touch and moving the pointer.

5

Request service.

If the pointer continues to move on its own, or if the touch screen is damaged, visit our Support Center to request service.
