How to set up a Samsung air purifier

When you unbox your air purifier, you'll notice that it has a lot of packing materials. This is because the material helps prevent the air purifier from being damaged while it's being moved or shipped.

1. Start by removing the back panel, and then remove the pre-filter, deodorization filter, and dust collecting filter. To remove the filters, place your fingers in the grooves at the top of the rear panel and slide them out individually.
   
   Note: Some models have a 2-in-1 filter and so have fewer amounts of separate parts to remove.
   
2. Unwrap the filters and discard the vinyl and foam packaging before putting them back in. The same process can be used to remove filters for replacement or cleaning.

Once you’ve taken out the filters and packaging, it’s time to reinsert the filters into your air purifier. These steps will be the same when you replace the filters with new ones. The filters work together to cleanse the air and must be placed in the correct order.

1. Use the grooves on the interior of the device to lock each filter into place, one by one. Align the dust collecting filter, the deodorization filter, and then the pre-filter.
   
   Note: Some models have a 2-in-1 filter and so have fewer parts to assemble.
   
   
2. Close the rear panel once the filters have been inserted by sliding the tabs on the bottom of the device until they lock securely.
3. Finally, connect the power adapter to the air purifier, making sure it clicks into place at the bottom of the device.

The filter reminder will keep track of how often you use the air purifier and flash red when it recommends replacing the filters. Generally, the deodorization and dust collecting filters will last between 6 months to 1 year, if the air purifier is used on a daily basis. However, the filters should be replaced early if they begin to carry odors.

Whenever you replace the filters, press and hold the Filter button for 3 seconds to reset the reminder (even if it hasn't begun to flash yet).

Note: Do not reuse filters after the filter reminder goes off.

To get the most out of the air purifier, you can use different settings based on your environment. If you plan on keeping the device in your bedroom, for instance, choose Sleep mode to purify the air while you sleep.

• The purifier’s fan mode can be altered to suit your preferences. Press the Fan button to select from Low, Medium, High, and Auto. Pressing the button again will let you cycle through each speed.
• You can create a gentle wind for cleansing the air with Wind-free mode, and disable all buttons with Lock mode if your air purifier is within reach of children.
  
  
• When choosing a location for your device, consider the fabrics in the surrounding area, including furniture and clothing.
• Pet dander, electric pressure cookers in kitchens, opened windows, and air fresheners can impact the amount of debris and odors that are caught in the device’s filters. Adjust the device’s fan settings based on these factors to get the best air quality.

PM stands for “Particulate Matter.” It’s a standard created by the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) and refers to the size of particles, measured in micrometers. The PM Concentration Level is an approximate measurement of how many particles of that size are in a cubic meter. There are three different PM sizes displayed on the Samsung air purifier. Here's what they stand for:

• PM10: Particles in the air that are about 1/5 of the diameter of a human hair.
• PM2.5: Particles in the air that are about 1/20 of the diameter of a human hair.
• PM1.0: Particles in the air that are about 1/50 of the diameter of a human hair.

Although your air purifier will filter larger particles from the air, these are the only sizes that are measured, along with gas pollution.

When you want to know about the air quality in your home, you can check these different levels:

If you'd like to refresh a large room, or just a room that tends to have heavy odors, two air purifiers can be connected by placing one on top of the other. Stack the devices carefully so that they will function properly.

1. When using two air purifiers at once, the top device will operate both units simultaneously. Pick which device you'd like to keep in the bottom position, and make sure it's plugged in.
2. Push down on and rotate the module connector in the top panel.
3. Next, disconnect the power adapter from the device you're stacking on top, and then combine the devices by aligning the module connectors.
4. To separate them, use the bottom handles of the top device to lift it up.
5. Rotate the modules on both devices so that they are set in the original positions, and reconnect the power adapter for the device that was on top.

Control your air purifier’s functions by using the SmartThings app. Set the fan speed, check the filter status, or monitor the air's cleanliness directly from your phone or tablet.

1. Make sure the air purifier is turned on. Press the Power button if needed.
2. Navigate to and open the SmartThings app on your phone, then tap the Devices tab, and then tap Add (the plus sign), and then tap Add device.
3. Tap Add under Samsung devices, and then tap Air purifier.
   
   
4. Scan the QR code on the air purifier and follow the on-screen instructions to connect the device to SmartThings. You can also tap Add without QR code, and then select your air purifier when it appears.

Once your air purifier is registered in SmartThings, here are the main things you can do from the app:

• Power: Tap the Power icon to turn your air purifier on or off remotely.
• Wind strength: Select the fan speed you want for the air purifier. Tap the current speed (Low, Auto, and so on), select your desired fan speed, and then tap Apply.
• Indoor air quality: Tap the Indoor tab to view the air’s Particulate Matter level for PM10, PM2.5, or PM1.0 levels and gas cleanliness inside your home.
• Outdoor air quality: Tap the Outdoor tab to view the overall air quality for the area you live in. To edit the area you live in, tap More options (the three vertical dots), and then tap Settings. Tap Set region, and then select the appropriate area. The air quality will then display on the air purifier's page.

This feature recommends turning on the air purifier when you are almost home and the indoor air freshness level is "Poor." You'll get notifications from SmartThings whenever Welcome care sends an alert.

1. First, make sure your phone's location services are turned on.
2. Next, open the SmartThings app, navigate to your air purifier, and select it. Swipe to and tap Welcome care, and then tap the switch at the top of the screen.
3. A pop-up will appear; tap Set to be taken to SmartThings's location settings page.
4. If a message appears at the top of the screen, tap OK, and then choose Allow all the time. Tap Back to be taken to the previous page.
   
   Note: You can skip this step if you do not see the message at the top of the screen.
5. Tap the switch next to the location with your air purifier (Home, Office, etc.). Another pop-up will appear asking permission to send your location data to other SmartThings members. Tap Allow.
6. Tap Back to return to the Welcome care page. Finally, tap the switch to enable it.
   
   
7. Now you'll receive notifications whenever SmartThings detects that you are close to the air purifier and the air quality is bad.

If you don't want the air purifier running all day and all night, you can set up a schedule to have it automatically turn on and off at designated times.

1. Tap Schedule, and then tap Add (the plus sign).
   
   
2. Tap the drop-down menu in the upper left corner and then select either Turn on or Turn off.
3. Next, select your desired settings, such as the time and weekday, and then tap Done.
4. Repeat these steps to make additional schedules for when the air purifier turns on or off. Now you won't have to worry about manually powering the air purifier or shutting it down.

There are some other things SmartThings can do with the air purifier. To see more features, tap More options (the three vertical dots) from the air purifier's Home page.

Here are the available options:

• Edit: Change the air purifier's name, location, assigned room, and more.
• Settings: Change different settings, such as adjusting the region you live in.
• Information: View the latest firmware version of the air purifier as well as other important information.

While the Samsung air purifier is extremely helpful, it can’t do everything. Here are some things to keep in mind during use:

• The air purifier cannot remove carbon monoxide.
• The air purifier is not designed to work in very humid or dusty environments, so do not place it in this kind of environment.
• Do not install the air purifier near a heat source and flammable objects. Avoid exposure to oil, gas, direct sunlight, and water.
• You can use the air purifier to remove strong smells from the air, but please be aware that the smell can get trapped in the filter and hang around even longer. This will also reduce the filter’s lifespan and require you to replace the filter sooner.
