Secure your Samsung PC with security features

With so many viruses and malware out there on the web, security has become crucial for laptops and PCs. However, not everybody knows how to protect themselves from cyber attacks. Don’t worry, the built-in security in Windows 10 and Windows 11 has got you covered.

Use Samsung Security features

The following Samsung Security features can be used to protect your PC and its information from prying eyes. Some of these features may require you to enter your Lock screen credentials to proceed.

Privacy Folder

 

The Privacy Folder lets you hide files that you do not want others to see. Open Samsung Security, then select Privacy Folder, and then select Set folder settings to set your desired folders and files.

 

Secret Screen

 

If you’re using your PC in a crowded room, you can prevent others from seeing your screen by covering it with an opaque or dark theme. Open Samsung Security, then select Secret Screen, and then select the drop-down menu to choose an effect. You can select Opacity Effect or Dark Screen Effect.

 

Security Cam

 

Security Cam is a Lock screen feature designed to stop others from logging into your PC. If anyone other than you tries to log in, you’ll receive an email containing a photo of the person and other information. To enable this, open Samsung Security, then select Security Cam, and then select the switch.

 

Block Recording

 

Block Recording lets you prevent unwanted recordings when you’re using the webcam. To enable this, open Samsung Security, then select Block Recording, and then select the switch.

Use Windows Security features

Windows Security is the central area where you can view and manage security and other features for your PC. For example, you can set parental controls for when your kids are using the internet.

 

Select the Start icon, begin typing Windows Security, and select it when it appears. Below are all the available features:

List of options for Windows Security

  • Virus & threat protection: Scan your PC with Quick scan or a custom scan to remove threats. You can also turn on tamper protection and ransomware protection. For more information about running a scan, please see the next section.
  • Account protection: Security for your account and sign-in information. You can also set Dynamic lock for added account protection.
  • Firewall & network protection: Manage who and what can access your networks.
  • App & browser control: Protect yourself from potential harmful apps and services.
  • Device security: Protect the core parts of your device with Core isolation. Secure boot prevents malicious software from loading when your device starts up.
  • Device performance & health: View any issues with time service, storage capacity, battery life, and apps & software.
  • Family options: Manage parental controls to help protect your kids online. If your kids have separate PCs, you can make sure they're up to date and check their security statuses.
  • Protection history: View the latest protection actions and recommendations.

Run a virus scan

If you suspect your PC is infected with viruses, go ahead and scan your PC.

 

Select the Start icon, and then search for and select Windows Security in the search field. Then, select Virus & threat protection. For a faster virus scan, select Quick scan.

From the Virus & threat protection page, you can check for updates, manage protection settings, and adjust ransomware protection.

Additional security settings and features

To further protect your PC and the personal information stored on it, you can set up a Lock screen password, such as a PIN or fingerprint password. You can also customize your Lock screen so it looks exactly how you want it to.

 

BitLocker is available on Windows 10 and 11 PCs as well, and lets you encrypt and manage your personal data.
