Customize the Home screens on your Galaxy tablet
Your home is where you keep all your important stuff, and similarly the Home screen on your tablet is where you can access all your important apps and features. Once you customize your Home screen, it will feel as cozy as your real home.
Note: Information provided applies to devices sold in Canada. Available screens and settings may vary for tablets sold in other countries. Galaxy Themes is only compatible with select phones, not tablets.
When you open your tablet, you want to get right to the good stuff, and that starts with the Home screen. You can customize your Home screens any way you want. Add, remove, or change your main Home screen, so everything is just how you like.
From any Home screen, touch and hold an empty space. The screen will enter Edit mode, displaying multiple screens.
From here, use the following options to manage screens:
- Add a screen: Swipe left until you see an empty Home screen, and then tap the Add icon (it looks like a plus sign).
- Remove a screen: Swipe to a Home screen you want to remove, and then tap the Remove icon (it looks like a trash can) at the top of the screen.
- Set a screen as the main Home screen: Swipe to the Home screen you want to make your main screen. Tap the Home icon (it looks like a house) at the top to make it your go-to screen. The bolded Home icon indicates which one is the main Home screen.
- Change the order of screens: Touch and hold the screen you want to move, and then drag it to the desired position.
- Turn Samsung Daily on or off: If you'd like to enable or disable Samsung Daily, swipe all the way to left until you reach the Samsung Daily screen. Tap the switch at the top to turn it on or off.
- Edit the Home screen settings: Tap Home screen settings in the lower right corner to be taken to even more options for the Home screen, such as adjusting the Home screen's layout.
- If there's an app you're always using, you can add a shortcut to it on your Home screen for easier and faster access.
- Open the Apps screen by swiping up from the bottom of the screen. Touch and hold the desired app, and then tap Add to Home.
You can also touch and hold an app, and then drag it to a Home screen.
If there's an app shortcut on your Home screen that you don't use very often, you can delete the shortcut but still keep the app.
Touch and hold the app shortcut you want to remove. Tap Remove from Home to remove the shortcut from the Home screen.
Note: The app itself will not be deleted; it will remain on your tablet.
Widgets are almost like mini apps. They provide shortcuts to your favorite apps' features. For example, the Weather widget will tell you the weather in real time, and the Google bar makes searching the web easier.
Swipe to the Home screen where you want to add a widget, and then touch and hold an empty space on the Home screen. Tap Widgets, and then touch and hold your desired widget. Then, drag it to your desired position.
Depending on the widget, the following options may be available after you've place the widget:
- Resize: If the widget can be resized, it will have a blue line along the edges. Simply touch and drag the blue circles to lengthen or shorten the widget.
- Color: Some widgets can be set to different colors. Select the color that best matches your theme or background.
- Transparency: Increase the widget's transparency to make it suitable for your wallpaper.
Having too many widgets can make your Home screen look crowded or disjointed. If you want to delete a widget for any reason, you can do so at any time. You can always add it again later if you'd like.
From the Home screen, touch and hold the widget you want to remove. Tap Remove from Home to make the widget disappear.
Your tablet comes with preloaded folders, like the Samsung folder, so all your related apps can be together in one place. But you can also create and edit your own folders to help you organize your other apps.
From the Home screen, touch and hold an app. Drag the shortcut on top of another app, and then release. The two apps will both be added to the same folder.
Tap Enter folder name and enter an appropriate name for the folder. To select a color for the folder, tap the Palette icon in the upper right-hand corner. You can add more apps to the folder by tapping Add apps or by dragging other apps into the folder.
To exit the folder, tap anywhere outside the folder.
If desired, you can move the folder to a different spot. Touch and hold the folder, and drag it to your desired location on your Home screen. Or, you can touch and hold the folder, and then tap Add to Home. In both methods, a shortcut for the folder will appear on the Home screen and a copy of the folder will remain on the Apps screen.
If you’ve made so many folders you’ve lost track of where everything is, you can delete them whenever you want. And don’t worry, the apps will return to where they were before.
Touch and hold the folder you want to delete, and then tap Remove from Home.
The folder will be removed and the apps will return to the Apps screen. If you have multiple copies of the same folder (i.e. one on the Home screen and one in Apps), they will have to be deleted separately.
Give your tablet's Home screen even more personality by changing the wallpaper. You can use a preloaded one or a picture from your Gallery.
Touch and hold any empty space on the tablet's Home screen, and then tap Wallpapers. You can also navigate to Settings, and then tap Wallpapers.
Select one of the preloaded wallpapers, or tap From Gallery and select your desired picture. Tap Home screen. You can also tap Home and lock screens to apply it to both. Adjust the wallpaper as needed, and then tap Set as wallpaper.
