Creating a festive atmosphere is an important part of celebrating special occasions, so what better way to make your guests feel comfortable than a properly set dinner table? You probably have a favorite set of tablecloths, napkins, and even table runners stocked in your linen closet. But what if a guest knocks over the gravy or some candle wax drips onto your tablecloth? Fortunately, your Samsung washing machine and dryer will help you get your table linens sparkling clean, no matter what kind of food, beverage, or substance was accidentally spilled.

Note: While the advice in this guide is universally applicable, it has been tailored specifically for our Canadian customers.

Notes:

  • Bleach usage: Only use bleach if your tablecloths and napkins are entirely white. Using bleach on colored fabrics can cause fading and damage.
  • Care label inspection: Always check the care label on each item before washing. If it specifies dry cleaning, do not wash or dry the fabric in your machine to avoid potential damage or shrinkage.

Cotton and linen tablecloths are well-suited for maintenance using your washing machine and dryer. Here are some essential tips to effectively wash these durable fabrics:

Cotton

  • Washing cycle: The standard wash cycle on your washing machine is perfectly adequate for cotton. Always use cold water for both washing and rinsing to maintain fabric integrity.
  • Detergent: Feel free to use any standard laundry detergent for washing cotton.
  • Drying: To prevent wrinkles and shrinkage, avoid using the dryer for cotton tablecloths and napkins. Instead, air-dry your items outside on a clothesline or indoors on a drying rack.
  • Wrinkles: If wrinkles do form, they can be easily removed with a clothing iron.

Linen

  • Washing cycle: The Normal cycle on your washing machine is ideal for linen. Use warm or cold water (never hot) throughout the cycle, for both washing and rinsing. If possible, wash your linen tablecloths with other linen items to maintain fabric integrity.
  • Detergent: Any standard laundry detergent is suitable for washing linen.
  • Drying: Use a low temperature setting on your dryer for linen items. Remove them while they are still slightly damp and finish drying by air-drying to minimize shrinkage and maintain fabric texture.
  • Wrinkles: Remove wrinkles with a clothing iron once the linen is completely dry. This helps to achieve a smooth finish.

You might hesitate to use your finer tablecloths, like those made of satin or silk, due to their delicate nature. However, there’s no need to worry. If your tablecloth gets stained, you can safely wash these fabrics in your Samsung washing machine without causing damage. For added protection, consider placing these items in a mesh laundry bag before starting the wash cycle.

Satin

  • Washing cycle: Use the Delicates cycle on your washing machine for satin. Choose warm water for washing and cool water for rinsing to preserve the fabric's quality.
  • Detergent: A mild laundry detergent is best for maintaining satin's delicate texture and appearance.
  • Drying: Dry satin items on a low temperature setting in your dryer. Promptly remove them to prevent wrinkles.
  • Ironing: Avoid direct ironing on satin. For wrinkle removal, place a towel over the satin and gently use the steam function of your iron to safely smooth out any creases.

Silk

  • Washing cycle: Use the Delicates wash cycle on your washing machine for silk. Opt for cool or lukewarm water for both the wash and rinse cycles to protect the fabric's delicate nature.
  • Detergent: A mild laundry detergent is recommended for silk, as harsh chemicals can damage the fibers.
  • Drying: Set your dryer to a no-heat option to safely dry silk items. If your dryer lacks a no-heat setting, gently squeeze out excess water and lay the fabric flat to air dry.
  • Wrinkles: To remove wrinkles from silk, iron on the underside of the fabric. This helps protect the silk's surface from direct heat.

Whether it's a splash of gravy or a dribble of fruit juice, don't let those annoying stains spoil your table linens. Here are some effective tips to get your tablecloths looking clean and fresh after a family meal:

  • Common stains: Most stains can be effectively treated by applying a dab of laundry or dish detergent directly onto the fabric before washing. For optimal results, let the detergent sit for about fifteen minutes before laundering.
  • Greasy stains: For stains from gravy or butter, add 1 or 2 teaspoons of baking soda to your wash cycle along with your detergent to help break down the grease.
  • Wet stains: For fresh stains from wine, juice, or sauces, first sprinkle baking soda, talcum powder, or cornstarch over the area to absorb the excess moisture. Once most of the liquid is absorbed, gently dab the stain with a small amount of detergent to remove any remaining marks.
  • Dried stains: If you find stubborn dried food or liquid on the linen, carefully scrape off the residue using a kitchen or plastic knife. Afterward, apply a small amount of detergent directly on the spot to help dissolve any lingering stains.
  • Candle wax removal: To remove candle wax, place a piece of paper towel over the affected area and press a hot iron over the towel. The heat will cause the wax to melt and adhere to the paper. Peel away the paper, inspect the fabric, and repeat if necessary until the wax is completely removed.
  • Using bleach: Avoid using bleach unless the linen is completely white and is being washed with other white items. Bleach should be considered a last resort after other methods fail to remove the stain.
