How to perform a picture test on your Samsung TV

If you are having trouble with your TV, you may think it's better to reset and start over. Although it could be one of the solutions to its problem, it may not be necessary. Your TV also has several built-in self-diagnostics to help you troubleshoot problems with your video, picture, sound, and many other things.

Performing a Picture Test

Note: The images below were taken on a 2024 model TV. Settings and layout may vary depending on the model of your TV.

1 Head to Settings and then All Settings
Select Settings and then All Settings
2 Choose Support and then Device Care
Choose Support then Device Care
3 Select Self Diagnosis
Select Self Diagnosis
4 Choose Picture Test. An information screen will appear stating you are about to perform a Picture Test. Select OK to proceed

5 A test picture will now appear. If the issue is intermittent or does not always show in the picture test, it is worth booking a technician to service the TV as it may still be a hardware fault
An image will appear. Follow the prompts of the Picture Test
1 Press the Home button on your remote control and then select Menu

2 Navigate to Settings and then All Settings
Choose Settings then All Settings
3 Select Support and then Device Care
Select Support then Device Care
4 Your device will run a quick scan. Once completed, highlight and select Self Diagnosis located at the bottom of the screen

5 Scroll across and select Picture Test. Once selected, an information screen will appear stating you are about to perform a Picture Test. Select OK to proceed

6 A test picture will now appear. If the issue is intermittent or does not always show in the picture test, it is worth booking a technician to service the TV as it may still be a hardware fault

1 Choose Settings cog Settings
Samsung Smart Hub.
2 Select Circle with a spanner inside Support tab and then Device Care

Note: If Device Care is greyed out, please exit the app running in the background.

3 Your device will run a quick scan. Once completed, highlight and select Self Diagnosis located at the bottom of the screen

4 Scroll across and select Picture Test. Once selected, an information screen will appear stating you are about to perform a Picture Test. Select OK to proceed.

5 A test picture will now appear. If the issue is intermittent or does not always show in the picture test, it is worth booking a technician to service the TV as it may still be a hardware fault.

  • 2016 - 2019 Model TVs: Settings > Support > Self Diagnosis > Start Picture Test
  • 2015 Model TVs: MENU/123 > MENU > Support > Self Diagnosis > Picture Test
  • 2014 Model TVs: Support > Self Diagnosis > Picture Test

  • The video/picture shown in the test is the best quality your TV can provide. However, the quality may vary depending on which source is used.
  • If you detect an issue with the test, the TV may have a problem. Contact Samsung Support for assistance.
